In 410, his army sacked Rome, an event regarded as marking the downfall of the Roman Empire in the west. From Alaric ou Rome vaincue (Alaric or the Conquest of Rome) an heroic poem dedicated to Queen Christina of Sweden (1626-1689) by Georges de Scudery. (Paris, 1654).
