'St Genevieve gardant ses moutons' ('St Genevieve watching her Flock'), 16th century. St Genevieve or Genovefa (422-500), the French saint who dedicated herself to God at the age of 7 and took the veil at 15. She is the patron saint of Paris, and a guardian agaist plague, fever and disasters. The painting shows St Genevieve in the foreground of a landscape seated in a stone circle which encloses her flock.
