Albert, Comte de Dion, French engineer, 1899. Together with George Bouton, de Dion (1855-1946) developed a lightweight engine which could be applied to motorcycles. De Dion Bouton went on to become one of the most successful early motor manufacturers. Cartoon from Vanity Fair, London, October 1899, showing De Dion on one of the company's motor tricycles.
