'Java Man' (Pithecanthropus erectus). Reconstruction based on a skull cap, thigh bone and two back teeth discovered in Pliocene fossil beds in Trinil, Central Java, by Dr Eugene Dubois in 1894. Dubois believed his discovery represented the 'missing link' in man's evolution from apes.
