Theodore Roosevelt, American soldier and politician, c1898. Roosevelt (1858-1919) in what is supposedly the uniform of 'Roosevelt's Roughriders', a unit of volunteer cavalry he raised to fight in the Spanish-American War. He became a war hero when he led the Roughriders in a famous charge against Spanish positions at the Battle of San Juan Hill on Cuba. Roosevelt was the 26th President of the USA, holding office from 1901-1909.
