Morse's first telegraph, 1837 (c1900). Invented by Samuel Finley Breese Morse (1791-1872), this was the first functional electric telegraph. On 24th May 1844 an experimental telegraph line was completed between Washington and Baltimore. The first message sent was 'What hath God wrought'.
