Jemmy Button, the Fuegian 'adopted' by Fitzroy's expedition, in 1834 (1839). During 1833 when Jemmy was living with the expedition, he was dressed in European clothes and his hair was cut short. A year later, after his return to his tribe, all European influence had disappeared. From Narrative of the Surveying Voyages of His Majesty's Ships Adventure and Beagle Vol II by Robert FitzRoy. (London, 1839). Fitzroy was captain of the 'Beagle' on the circumnavigation when Charles Darwin was the naturalist.
