The Wear above Sunderland Iron Bridge, c1829. The Wear was an important waterway for exporting the coal and chemical and industrial products of the area. On the right are warehouses and staithes, while on the left are the tops of the masts of vessels which could be loading up at coal staithes. After William Westall (1781-1850).
