Electric overhead monorail at Barmen-Elberfeld (now Wuppertal), Germany, 1901. This, the world's first and oldest still operating, overhead monorail passenger transport system was designed by the German engineer Eugen Langen (1833-1895), and was opened to the public on 1 March 1901.
