Pierre-Alexander Darracq, French automobile manufacturer, 1901. Darracq (1855-1931) was one of the first to plan the mass production of motor vehicles. In 1904 he was the most successful car manufacturer in the world, producing 1600 vehicles. His Italian factory was the origin of the famous Alfa Romeo company. Darracq himself never learned to drive.
