Abingdon Workhouse, Oxfordshire, built for the Abingdon Union, 1836. The first workhouse in England completed under the provisions of the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834. Based on a hexagon, the superintendent's quarters are in the centre with an overview of all the separate activities in the different segregated areas. From The Mirror. (London, 1836).
