Erasmus Wilson, English surgeon and antiquary, 1880. In medicine Wilson (1809-1884) specialised in skin diseases. His other interest was Egyptology, of which he was a generous patron. In 1878 he paid for the transport of Cleopatra's Needle from Egypt to London at a cost of £10,000. Cartoon titled 'The Obelisk' from Vanity Fair. (London, 18 December 1880).
