Colonel Vivian Dering Majendie, Chief Inspector of Explosives, 1892. Majendie (1836-1898), British soldier, served with the Royal Artillery at Sebastopol during the Crimean War and at Lucknow. His field was explosives and he was one of the first bomb disposal experts. He is shown holding an explosive device. Cartoon titled 'Explosives' from Vanity Fair. (London, 23 April 1892).
