Incandescent light bulb, 1929. Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), American physicist and inventor, produced the first successful electric light bulb. The globe on the left is Edison's first practicable carbon filament lamp using carbonized bamboo fibres. Reverse of a medal celebrating the 50th anniversary of his invention.
