Charles Darwin, English naturalist, in his study, c1870 (1887). Darwin (1809-1882) lived at Down House, Beckenham, Kent for forty years. It was in his study here that he wrote his important works including On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection (1859). From The Illustrated London News. (London, 10 December 1887).
