The fall of Sevastopol (Sebastopol), 1855. During the Crimean War (Russo-Turkish War) 1853-1856, Russian troops were under siege at Sevastopol from 17 October 1854 to 8-9 September 1855. Sevastopol finally fell and the Russians blew up the forts and magazines before they marched out on 11 September. From The History of the war against Russia illustrated by Edward H Nolan.
