Aldwinkle, Northamptonshire, birthplace of John Dryden (1631-1700), c1846. Dryden English poet and playwright, was born in the rectory at Aldwinkle All Saints where his maternal grandfather was rector. Dryden was appointed Poet Laureate in 1668.
