Scene from Adam Bede by George Eliot, c1885. Slowly, while Dinah was speaking, Hetty rose, took a step forward, and was clasped in Dinah's arms. Hetty Sorrel, sentenced to death for infanticide, comforted in prison by her Methodist preacher cousin, Dinah Morris.
