'The Camel', c1850. The central image shows the Arabian Camel or Dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) with a single hump, and the Asian or Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus) with two humps. Surrounding vignettes show (clockwise from top left): a messenger riding a camel; a camel caravan crossing a desert; a camel loaded with merchandise; camels mounted with guns; camel hair cloth being sold in a shop; a desert encampment with camels used for meat and for milk; loading camel with goods; Arab ladies riding on camels.
