'Portrait of Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales (1594-1612)', c1604. The prince wears a lace collar and silver slashed doublet and hose, with the Order of the Garter round his neck. One hand is on his hip and he looks directly at the viewer. The prince, who died of typhoid fever at the age of 18, was the eldest son of King James I. He would have been nine or ten years old at the time this portrait was painted.
