'The Frozen Thames', 1677. The River Thames viewed, probably, from Old Swan Stairs looking east with old London Bridge in the middle distance, with the tower of St Olave's Tooley Street just visible, and Southwark Cathedral on the right. People amuse themselves on the ice; some shoot and others skate. The Thames no longer freezes because the arches of the modern bridge don't impede the flow of water.
