'Putney and the Thames from Putney Bridge', c1750. The earliest painted view of Putney which was at the time noted for the beauty of its villas and also for its orchards and market gardens. Now a suburb of London, Putney is the starting point for the famous Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.
