'Westminster Bridge from the River, Looking South', c1750. The new Westminster Bridge in London was opened the same year this picture was painted. On the left, in the middle distance in Lambeth Palace. On the right can be seen Millbank, the four towers of St John's, Smith Square, St Stephen's Chapel (meeting place of the House of Commons until its destruction by fire in 1834), Westminster Hall and Westminster Abbey. At the foot of the bridge to the right is Bear Inn.
