'The Burning of Drury Lane Theatre from Westminster Bridge', c1809. The flames and smoke climb high into the night sky. People watch in horror from a vantage point on the bank of the River Thames. This magnificent theatre was built between 1791 and 1794 to the designs of Henry Holland. The fire happened on 24th February 1809.
