'Temple Bar Illuminated for the Marriage of the Prince of Wales, 11 March 1863'. Temple Bar, one of the gates into the City of London, was specially illuminated with gaslights for the wedding of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, to Princess Alexandra of Denmark, on the 11th March 1863. The red drapes and gold decoration are surmounted by a figure of Hymen, the torch-bearing god of marriage. People and vehicles crowd the Strand.
