The Common Seal of London, c1219. This face of the seal bears the image of St Thomas Becket enthroned over the London skyline. After his murder in 1170, Archbishop Thomas, who called himself 'Thomas of London' in official documents, was canonised in 1173 and was quickly adopted by London as patron saint of the city. The opposite face of the seal shows St Paul and is inscribed in Latin 'Seal of the Barons of London'.
