Venus figurine, Roman. Clay votive figure depicting the goddess Venus after bathing. It would have been a religious offering given as payment to the deity in return for the fulfilment of a vow. Such figures have been found near the site of the old Walbrook stream in the city of London and were possibly connected with the cult of the Celtic water-goddess. This one was made in central Gaul or the Rhineland.
