Execution at Tyburn, London, 1803. A frightened man and woman stand in the gallows with nooses round their necks, with a coffin ready next to them. A member of the clergy reads them the last rites. A crowd of people stand and watch, and children use the distraction to pick pockets. A woman at the feet of the clergyman appears to be begging for mercy. Marble Arch now stands on the Tyburn site, which was known for its public executions. The last public execution there was held in 1783.
