Poster advertising 'Wotan' and 'Tantalum' lamps, early 20th century. The Houses of Parliament and the buses crossing Westminster Bridge are all brightly lit. Tantalum was resistant to corrosion and was used to make certain alloys. Wotan is the name of a character from a Wagner opera.
