Professor F Accum lecturing at the Surrey Institute, London, 1809. The distinguised German chemist and pioneer of gas lighting, conducting an experiment in the lecture theatre of the Surrey Institution, Blackfriars Road. For his scientific demonstration, Accum is using test tubes, a kettle, beakers and other glass instruments.
