'Hudibras's First Adventure', 18th century. Hudibras points his pistol at a one legged fiddler, Talgol, and a man with a bear. There is no escape for them, as behind them stands a group of men all with clubs. Plate III from the story Hudibras, written by Samuel Butler. Hudibras is a colonel in the Cromwellian army. The story shows him getting involved in various misadventures, where he shows himself to be stupid, greedy and dishonest.
