'Coffee Stall - Early Morning', 1872. Men gather round a coffee stall, chatting and queuing up for coffee. The stall holder can be seen top left filling a mug from the urn. A lone woman stands on the right. An engraving from "London: A Pilgrimage". The writer Blanchard Jerrold suggested to Gustave Doré that they collaborated on a work portraying London life. Doré created a total of 180 engravings for this work. Many criticised the book for concentrating on the poverty of London.
