John Cooper, winner of Formula 3 race at Rouen, 1952. By 1948 John Cooper and his father Charles Cooper were making rear engined 500cc formula 3 cars. The inroduction of this new breed of car re-wrote the F1 record books by rendering front-engined machines such as the Vanwall, Ferrari Dino 246 and Maserati 250F obsolete by the end of the 1958 season.
