George Lanchester in a 1902 Lanchester, Brighton, East Sussex, 1952. Together with his brothers he formed the Lanchester Engine Company, which became the Lanchester Motor Company in 1905. Lanchester was the first British motor manufacturer to export left-hand drive cars, with overseas customers including Henry Ford and a number of Indian Maharajahs. The company was taken over by the BSA/Daimler group in 1933, and production of Lanchesters was reduced, the last car being built in 1955.
