Both Mercedes and Auto-Union raced streamliner cars based on their speed record vehicles at Avus in 1937, registering lap speeds never since attained in a Formula race. Here the Mercedes of Manfred von Brauchitsch and Hermann Lang pass an Auto Union on the south curve. Lang (no 37) emerged as the winner of the race, watched by a crowd numbering 400,000.
