Ben Hogan, American professional golfer, 1949. Cover of Time Magazine, January 1949. After winning two major titles in 1948, the US Open and USPGA, Hogan was involved in a car crash in 1949, sustaining injuries that many thought signalled the end of his career in professional golf. He was competing again a year later however, and won the 1950 US Open just 16 months after the accident. His comeback was ultimately so successful that in 1953 he won the Masters, the Open and the US Open.
