USGA Ben Hogan Trophy, 1953. The Ben Hogan Trophy is awarded each year by the Golf Writers Association of America to the golfer who has made the greatest comeback from physical disability. It was established in 1953 in honour of Ben Hogan's achievement in recovering from multiple injuries sustained in a serious car accident to such a degree that he won three of the four Majors that year, the Masters, the US Open and the Open Championship.
