Sandys Row from Artillery Row, East End, London, 1912. A crowd of inquisitive children faces the camera in a street near Spitalfields. Between 1881 and 1914, two million Jews left Eastern Europe, fleeing poverty and persecution. Some 150,000 settled in England, many living in the East End, near the docks where their ships had arrived.
