Selfridge's department store, Oxford Street, London, 1951. The John Lewis group bought the store for £3.4 million in this year. John Lewis opened his first draper's shop in Oxford Street in 1864. His son, John Spedan Lewis (1885-1963), founded the John Lewis Group.
