James Bruce, Scottish traveller and travel writer, (1870). Bruce (1730-1794) travelled extensively in the Levant and Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, publishing his Travels to Discover the Source of the Nile in the Years 1768-73 in 1790. An engraving from Robert Chambers' A Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Scotsmen, Blackie and Son, (Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London, 1870).
