John Erskine, Earl of Mar, Scottish nobleman and leader of the Jacobites, (1870). Erskine (1675-1732) commanded the Jacobite forces loyal to James Edward Stuart, the 'Old Pretender' in the unsuccessful uprising of 1715. An engraving from Robert Chambers' A Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Scotsmen, Blackie and Son, (Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London, 1870).
