John Napier, Scottish mathematician, physicist, astronomer and astrologer, (1870). Napier (1550-1617) is most remembered as the inventor of logarithms and the calculation tool known as Napier's Bones, and for popularizing the use of the decimal point. An engraving from Robert Chambers' A Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Scotsmen, Blackie and Son, (Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London, 1870).
