Siege of Lucknow, India, 1857, (1893). In 1857, Lucknow, the capital of the state of Oudh, was the scene of a historic defence by the British during the Sepoy Mutiny (Indian Mutiny/First War of Indian Independence) against British rule. The Siege of Lucknow was one of the key episodes in the unsuccessful rebellion.
