Osborne House, former royal residence in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, 1899. Osborne House was 'a place of one's own, quiet and retired' for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The royal couple bought Osborne as a relatively small house, and the royal residence, designed by Prince Albert and Thomas Cubitt, was built between 1845 and 1851.
