Henry Howard, 1st Earl of Northampton, (1825). The discovery of Howard's (1540-1614) brother's plot to marry Mary, Queen of Scots, and of his own correspondence with her, caused him to fall from Elizabeth I's favour. He was arrested on several occasions on suspicion of harbouring treasonable designs. In 1583 he published A Defensative against the Poyson of supposed Prophecies, an attack on astrology, which led to his imprisonment.
