King, queen, and court, c1450, (1910). The turban headdress was in vogue for a considerable period, and was undoubtedly based on an Oriental model, as during the early part of its use a very common ornament for its decoration was the crescent which appears to point to a Turkish origin. It was of light construction despite its bulk, composed of a wire framework over which was stretched silk or other material, of the richest description. Illustration from British Costume during 19 Centuries by Mrs Charles H Ashdown, (London, 1910).
