'Marine fusiliers involved in a street battle in Diksmuide', Flanders, Belgium, 1914 (1926). French marines in action during the Battle of the Yser which stopped the German advance and secured the Belgian coast for the Allies in October 1914. The town of Diksmuide was effectively reduced to rubble during World War I and was rebuilt in the 1920s.
