Sir Thomas Brisbane, British soldier, colonial governor and astronomer, (1886). Brisbane (1773-1860) served as Governor of New South Wales from 1821-1825. The settlement that later grew into the capital of Queensland, which Brisbane visited in 1826, is named after him. Wood engraving from 'Picturesque Atlas of Australasia, Vol I', by Andrew Garran, illustrated under the supervision of Frederic B Schell, (Picturesque Atlas Publishing Co, 1886).
