A bronze switch plate in the John Rylands Library, University of Manchester, 1942. The Library was built in 1890-99 using a Gothic style, but details such as this switch plate show an Arts and Crafts influence. John Rylands was a textile manufacturer who in the 1840s took control of the family business Rylands & Sons Ltd, and developed it into one of the largest textile manufacturing and trading companies in Britain.
