The Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol, Avon. The bridge spans the Clifton Gorge cut by the River Avon on the edge of Bristol. The bridge was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He entered a competition to build this bridge and won the commission in 1831. Work began in 1836, but it was not completed until after his death in 1864.
